Lesson Program

Our riding lessons are designed to help riders accomplish their goals in a private setting that offers one on one or group training.  We teach strictly English style riding and focus on the hunter jumper discipline.  Our lessons also vary in time, as we do not end the lesson until the goals for the day are achieved.

The school horses we use are show quality with wonderful temperaments.  For clients who own their own horses, you are more then welcome to ship in.

Lessons are offered for beginning to advanced riders and no previous riding experience is needed.

Proper riding attire not only can make you more comfortable, but it is also important for safety reasons.  Casual lesson attire is acceptable and consists of jeans or jodhpurs with paddock boots and half chaps.  Shirts should be a clean look such as Polos, fitted tee’s, or cool-max shirts.  Shirts should be tucked in and a belt should be worn.  The goal is a professional clean look that allows the trainer to see the rider’s body position.  Formal riding attire consists of black tall boots with breeches, usually tan, and a proper riding shirt.  When riding, a helmet is ALWAYS appropriate and riding without one is prohibited at WestWood Farms.  It is also strongly advised to wear gloves when riding.  Riders must eventually purchase their own helmet.  Common helmet brands include Charles Owens and GPA.  For first timers, the proper attire is not required.  We do ask however, that you wear jeans with a closed toed boot that has a heel.  We will provide a helmet.

Lesson packages are occasionally available.  Please call Janie Losin at  (248) 505-6620 for more information.

Please Note:  a 24 hour cancellation notice is required for all of WestWood’s services including Lessons.  We will not allow make ups unless proper notice is given.
